Let us read today’s Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! Light up our hearts. Alleluia! Our Alleluia (sung to the tune of ‘If you’re happy and you know it. . ) Alleluia, alleluia praise the Lord! Let us praise him for his glory, As we listen to the story. Alleluia, alleluia praise the Lord!
Let us read today’s Gospel: John 1: 19 -28 The Jews sent some priests to John the Baptist to ask him, ‘Who are you? ’ ‘I am not the promised one, ’ he answered. ‘Are you Elijah or a prophet? ’ they asked. ‘No, I am neither of these, ’ he replied. ‘Well who are you then and why are you baptising these people? ’ John answered using the words of the prophet Isaiah, ‘I am a voice crying out in the desert, prepare a way for the Lord! I baptise you with water, but there one you do not yet know, who stands among you – one who is coming after me. I am not fit even to undo his sandals. ’ The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ.
Reflection John was very popular in his day and people would travel for miles to see John and to hear him speak. He was so popular that many people began to think that he might be the Savior that had been promised -- or that he must at least be Elijah or one of the great prophets who had come back from the dead. John assured people that he was not the Christ, or even one of the great prophets. He told them that he was just a man who had come to tell them about one who was coming who truly was the greatest. "The one who is coming -why, I'm not even worthy to unbuckle his sandals, " John said. Of course, the one he was talking about was Jesus. Most of us will probably never be known as "the greatest anything, " but we can, like John, tell others about the One who is The Greatest. We can tell them about Jesus. I can't think of anything that we could do that would be greater than that! Sometimes we are asked to do things, simple things Such as homework, tidy up, washing up, sit quietly and listen or be kind Sometimes we do not do these things well enough We rush them, or put them off for later or even forget to do them at all Sometimes we cannot do some things alone and we need help and guidance This can be a parent, a teacher, an older sibling or a friend or God Let us say thank you and tell everyone who asks about the help they give us
Activity 1 Activity 2 Word Search. See if you can find all the words from todays gospel. Sermon. Id=247 This month we are asking you to serve a snack to someone To someone who does things well, who helps you, the best they can and they do it when asked This is a way that you can say thank you
Let us now bow our heads and say our closing prayer together… Give us the courage to change our hearts and make us grow strong in love and faith. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
