Photo Shoot I have taken a first photo shoot for the magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread. Some photographs will be used but others will remain un used, for reasons that I will discuss further.

Suitable images for the front cover

Why is this image suitable for the front cover? ■ The music magazine I would like to create will have a genre of ‘indie rock’. ■ As the subject of the magazine I have taken a photo shoot of my sister, Adele Williams. I have used the make up, clothing and stances I felt appropriate for the genre. ■ Here I have used a mid shot with hard lighting with a key light place behind the camera. ■ This image is suitable for the front cover because Adele is looking straight on with direct address to the viewer. The positioning of her hands to jacket creates a subtle sense of attitude, without coming across to strongly. Also her facial expression suggests an attitude that can be seen on indie rock magazine front covers, I feel it is the little aspects that make the difference to the overall magazine.

Suitable images for a contents page or double page spread

Why is this image suitable for a contents page or double page spread? ■ Here I have used a mid shot with hard lighting with a key light place behind the camera. ■ This image is suitable for a double page spread because double page spread images are often more relaxed and less direct. The images can show the subject’s personality with their stance and expression. However the double page spread image can also be chosen to support the topic of the article, for example if the article focused on the subject being out in clubs the image could be on location and taken in a club.
