Exercise Objective To train the staff of the 1 st Marine Infantry Battalion for stability and support operations as a component of a multi-national division deployed to Kosovo in support of peace operations conducted in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Training Objectives 1. Stage at an aerial port of debarkation [APOD], onward movement to an assigned area of responsibility, and integration into a deployed NATO-led multinational military structure. 2. Organize a brigade sized area of operations for the operations characteristic of stability and support operations, such as the delivery of humanitarian aid, control of main supply routes, population control, refugee assistance, and conflict resolution. 3. Use sound military decision making in response to orders and directives, including the formulation of valid courses of action and the analysis required to make command decisions in a timely manner. 4. Supervise on-going operations through the appropriate monitoring of all warfighting functions, proper troop leading procedures, processing of reports and directives, and routine staff procedure. 5. Respond to contingencies, based upon sound analysis of risk, using a designated Rapid Response Force under the control of an Air Assault Task Force.

General Situation Handout
Special Situation Under the provisions of UNSCR 1244 The Ukrainian Government has agreed to and will contribute a battalion-size military unit to the KFOR effort in KOSOVO. In preparation for the UN Mission in KOSOVO (UNMIK), the Ukrainian General Staff selected the 1 st Marine Infantry Battalion to participate in KOSOVO as the Ukrainian contingent. The 1 st Marine Battalion is to be prepared to conduct Peace Support Operations (PSO) in KOSOVO on or about 14 February 2009. The 1 st Marine Battalion was alerted for its mission and deployed to Pristina, KOSOVO on 14 January 2009 where it is currently preparing to receive its OPORD from COMKFOR for its upcoming PSO mission.
