Project Description • Improve the National Statistical System(NSS) of Sri Lanka to contribute effectively to the development of the country. • The system currently existing caters the government and other development partners in their data needs for development plans • The quality frame work, co-ordination with other agencies, avoiding duplication of compiling, improve the official statistics programme and implementation of a new statistical act.

The review tool • Purpose? – Policy makers, citizens, and the international community use data for results-based management, better governance, evidence-based decision making – The Need to build the confidence and awareness by improving the quality of data, the relevance, importance and timeliness of statistics to above task • How it going to be used? – The concerns of other external stake holders will be obtained by the tool – Hope to get ways and means for the Improvements in the current NSS
Plan to Progress / Timelines • Proposed activities to be completed in time • Inclusion of higher ranking officers from the Ministry and other decision makers in the external team • Effective official statistics programme with the participation of the stakeholders • Maximum use of administrative data for compiling statistics by including the participation of important Ministries
