Duty of Care COPY THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH Anyone, and so including Sports Leaders, who is responsible for others and leading them in any activity or event has a duty of care towards them. This means a responsibility to make sure participants are safe, looked after and cared for.
Task 1 Working in a group, List the responsibilities a Sports Leader would have, as a duty of care to participants in their sessions.

Safeguarding COPY THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH Safeguarding is actions as a consequence of an individual’s duty of care. The two terms are closely linked. Therefore, Sports Leaders also have a responsibility to safeguard participants. Safeguarding is defined as the action taken to promote an individual’s wellbeing and to prevent them from harm.
Task 2 Working with a partner, List the ways in which Sports Leaders can fulfil their duty of care and safeguard participants.
Fulfilling Duty of Care � Complete risk assessment � Minimise potential risks � Report items that are unsafe/need attention � Maintain a friendly but responsible relationship with participants � Ensure you are not left alone, especially with younger/vulnerable participants � Don’t promise to keep secrets � Use appropriate language at all times
