How much and when? This will be calculated by reference to the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 & 11). All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £ 8, 000 plus a premium of £ 5 per pupil. It will be included in the Additional Grant for Schools.

What can I spend it on? Ring Fenced for ‘improving PE & Sport provision’ but schools will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Schools can pool money. Possible uses for the funding include: • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE • new or additional Change 4 Life sport clubs • paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport • providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport • running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport • providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.

How will we be judged? OFSTED framework ‘proposed’ from September. o o Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities Ensure that pupils are physically active for sustained periods of time Engage in competitive sports and activities Lead healthy, active lives. BEFORE MAKING INVESTMENT DECISIONS: Have an understanding of the impact of PE, physical activity and school sport on young people and whole school standards. Put effective development plans in place to improve provision and outcomes in and through PE, physical activity and school sport. Appoint a subject co-ordinator. Implement a strategy for improving teacher competence and confidence in PE. Work in clusters and pool resources to increase curriculum and extracurricular opportunities for all. Use external expertise effectively to build capacity in your own staff. STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and AUDIT.
