Discernment of Spirits (1 Corinthians 12: 10) • being able to distinguish, discern, judge or appraise a person, statement, situation, or environment. • God, Satan, The World, The Flesh • (Hebrews 5. 14)your are a Community Gate keeper, you are always watching people’s body language, Relational Truth is a high priority, you tend to see things as black and white, you just know stuff
Discernment • Sin patterns: chosen isolation, burdened by all the information, judgmental, and believe that God expects them to fix everything • Jesus: Mathew 16. 23 • paired with pastor, shepherds, evangelist, prophet, encouragement
Teaching (Eph 4. 12, Romans 12. 7, I Cor. 12. 28) • The ability to communicate the truth about Jesus that is clear and offers direct application (Equipping) • Anytime you read or study something you are putting together a lecture or lesson, you love the “got it moment, ” people ask you to explain things that they don’t understand, you for look illustrations everywhere, you are concerned with the basics being understood. 1 peter 4. 11 (the very words of God)
Teaching (Eph 4. 12, Romans 12. 7, I Cor. 12. 28) • Sin patterns: your are impatient, you tend to correct people, you have trouble listening • Jesus: Matt 4. 24; Matt 7. 28 -29 • Paired with pastor/shepherd, knowledge, wisdom
Exhortation/Encouragement Romans 12: 7 -8 • To call upon to give courage and strengthen towards love and good deeds. Hebrews 10. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Encourage. . . Exhort • These are people are the huggers, you love to listen to people’s stories, you remember little details and then ask about them, you are aware of people’s body language, you have ongoing conversations about people with God, people say you are patient person, you think being long-suffering is a legitimate hobby
Exhortation/Encouragement • Teacher says, “this is the way we should go. ” And the encourager says, “I will go there with you” • Sin patterns: often live in discouragement, privately critical, contemplate giving up • Jesus: John 14. 16 -17 the Holy Spirit (Advocate/Comforter) • Barnabas vs. Paul • Acts 15. 36. . .
