• Activity I would like you to write out your word and draw a picture of each syllable in your word. For example: lipstick Maybe you would like to make something like this?
Start with a game of Pictionary. Perhaps you will draw the whole word or maybe break it down into it’s syllables?

Dictation • This sentence is read out loud to the children. • They then independently write the sentence. • Afterwards model each part of the sentence and give ticks for capital letters, full stops, correct sounds. For example, if your child has written ‘ay’ instead of ‘ai’ for rain, still give them a tick as they have correctly identified the sound. • If there is a finger space, put a smiley face! • For block 6, the sentences include the connective ‘and’ as these are modelled to the children. Grace put on some lipstick and went out to dance.
Super Sentences! • Write each of your spelling words in a sentence. • One point is given to each sentence with a spelling word in. • Two points is given to a sentence which also includes a connective (and, but, because), joins two sentences together. • Two points is given to a sentence which also includes an adjective (describing word). The secret score to beat is 10
When sentence writing always encourage: • Neat handwriting, in cursive or joined up. Always writing in small letter formations with good control and on the lines. • Capital letters at the start of sentences, names and places. Correct these if they are put in incorrect places. • Finger spaces after each word. • Full stops at the end of sentences.
