+ Prefixes and Suffixes n A prefix is a letter or group of letters added to the beginning of a word to change the word’s meaning. n n When adding a prefix to a word, do not change the spelling of the word itself. n n Example: re + turn= return, pre+ view= preview, un + seen= unseen Example: Mis + giving= misgiving, un + noticed= unnoticed A suffix is a letter or group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning. n Example: hope +ful= hopeful, talk+ ed + talked, sing + ing = singing
