Spelling: Lesson 15 Grade 2 The <ou> Sound: ou or ow

Aim To spell words with ou or ow To spell words correctly

Motivation There are many words with /ou/ or /ow/. Divide a paper into two columns: /ou/ words /ow/ words Think of as many words as you can.

Demonstration There is no specific rule that tells me when to use /ou/ or /ow/. You need to memorize which words use which spelling pattern.

Guided Practice On the coming slides, you will read each list word with its meaning and a picture. Try to guess the meaning of each word before you read it. Are you ready?

1. snap Snap (noun): a sudden, sharp cracking sound or movement, click

2. swam (verb): past tense of swim, to move across the water

3. loud Loud (adjective): being noisy

4. cloud (noun): a visible mass of condensed watery vapor floating in the atmosphere

5. found (verb): past tense of find it is to discover or spot something

6. now (adverb): at the present time or moment

7. crowd (noun): a large number of people gathered together

8. sunflower (noun): a yellow flower don’t forget that sunflower is a compound word made up of 2 words, sun and flower

9. fifteen a number

10. sixteen Sixteen a number add six before “teen”
