YR MATHS • Counting on and Counting back. Taking away by counting back Lesson 2

What numbers are the children’s counters on and who is in front/winning? What does the symbol on number 9 mean? Ask –What does Aidan’s card say, can you read it? Which direction is back? What do you notice about the numbers when you count backwards (they get smaller) what number will he land on? What is 9 count back 3? Can you explain what he has done using a first, now and then story like last week?
Remember the BIG number track you drew last week can you draw or use again? You are going to be the counter! Stand on a number and roll the dice to see how many jumps to make. This time though you are going to be jumping backwards. Make sure you count the jumps you make NOT the numbers. PLAY! Remember to say…First- what number did you start on… Then how many jumps back did you move? . . . What number are you on now?
LITERACY • First practise your sounds with mum or dad…it won’t take long. You are the teacher …. look at your sound chart and you say the sound first and ask mum or dad to say the sound back to you. Remember to go in and out of order. Don’t forget to say well done! • You are going to use your role play rocket/space station today • Remember the story of Bob we read yesterday? He stopped to have a picnic lunch with his friends on the moon- he had two sandwiches, an apple and some chocolate covered nuts! • What would you like to have in your lunch box when you travel to the moon? Today you are going to have a picnic lunch in your role play rocket/space station if mum and dad say that’s ok! • For Literacy draw a picture in your Literacy book of your picnic lunch and label everything you are going to have! ART AND DESIGN • Lovely to see all your photos of last week’s rockets you made …they were fabulous! • This week you are going to have a go at creating a space background for your rocket to fly through (see the easel) • You could use crayons, felt tips or paint (if you have that, it would work brilliantly. ) • You could draw/paint a rocket on your picture too! • Take a photo for Tapestry!
