Speeches that made history

Throughout history, people have turned to those in power, those they admire and those

Throughout history, people have turned to those in power, those they admire and those that inspire to provide reassurance, guidance or inspiration. On a national, and sometimes even global scale, these can be done through delivering speeches to the nation. This week we will look at some of the most famous speeches in history. These speeches all come with their own history, significance and a whole range of emotion. I will provide a task to do on each one but please feel free to discuss and research them further if they have sparked an interest. At the end of the week, you will write and deliver your own inspiring speech to deliver to the nation!

Your turn Imagine you have been asked to address the nation during these uncertain times. The reason for the speech is to reassure people, to bring people together and to praise people for all of their efforts during lockdown. (There doesn’t need to be any science bits, we’ll leave that to the scientists!) Today you just need to plan your speech and then tomorrow you will deliver it. Use the next slide to help you with what you would like to say to the nation.
