Speeches that made history

Throughout history, people have turned to those in power, those they admire and those that inspire to provide reassurance, guidance or inspiration. On a national, and sometimes even global scale, these can be done through delivering speeches to the nation. This week we will look at some of the most famous speeches in history. These speeches all come with their own history, significance and a whole range of emotion. I will provide a task to do on each one but please feel free to discuss and research them further if they have sparked an interest. At the end of the week, you will write and deliver your own inspiring speech to deliver to the nation!

We’ve looked at why speeches might be made, we’ve looked at some of the key features of a good speech and today we’re going to look at how to deliver a good speech. Musharaf I think this clip is incredibly inspiring and just shows the things you can do if you put your mind to it. Think about a time you were nervous, how did you overcome it? For today’s task I would like you to write a letter or design a poster to help people overcome their fears or barriers. How would you encourage them? What advice would you give them? Are there any techniques they could use to help them overcome their fears?
