Speeches that made history

Throughout history, people have turned to those in power, those they admire and those that inspire to provide reassurance, guidance or inspiration. On a national, and sometimes even global scale, these can be done through delivering speeches to the nation. This week we will look at some of the most famous speeches in history. These speeches all come with their own history, significance and a whole range of emotion. I will provide a task to do on each one but please feel free to discuss and research them further if they have sparked an interest. At the end of the week, you will write and deliver your own inspiring speech to deliver to the nation!

Winston Churchill Perhaps the most iconic of leaders to deliver speeches to the nation in their time of need. During WWII, Churchill delivered many speeches that have become part of our history as a nation. I have included a few of the most iconic speeches on the next few slides. These are shortened versions as the full versions would make the file too big to upload, please feel free to find the whole speech if you wish.

Winston Churchill Once you have listened to each speech, I want you to think of the reason he delivered those speeches. What message was he trying to get across? How did each speech make you feel? What did he say to make you feel like that?
