Special Needs: Inclusion The reason we should care, is to truly make sure that no child is left behind all kids have a chance to be a productive member of society. If these children do not learn to be self-sufficient they will become a burden on the society.
What is Inclusion is the introduction of special needs students into a normal classroom setting. Special needs students who are included in a normal classroom setting have higher academic achievements than those who are in a self-contained classroom. Including these students takes the teachers focus away from the traditional students. Should the students with disabilities be catered on if the regular students are the ones who have to pay for it.
Positives Students who are included into normal classrooms have higher self-esteem and social skills. They are more able to function and react in everyday situations and environments. Special needs students who achieve a higher level of educations are more able to live independently and semi -independently and not become a burden on tax payers.
Negatives The state is currently running at 20% of it’s required teachers who have a background with special education endorsements. Students lose the amount of instructional time received due to the teachers focus on the individual student.
