Please make sure you have your Express Cards given to one student in your family.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY Volunteering • Must fill out a volunteer background check on www. comalisd. org. • If you filled one out last year, you must do it again.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY Agendas • Check daily for: – assignments – missing work – behavior marks – comments from teachers • Sign daily and include your comments if needed. • Any assignments not completed that day in class will be due the following day.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY Grading-9 weeks • • • Class work/daily work counts as 50%. Independent assessments/Quizzes/Common Assessments/Projects count as 45%. Per district guidelines, any student can earn the opportunity to retest ONE assessment/quiz and ONE daily grade per subject per nine weeks. Students will receive no higher than a 75 on an independent assessment/quiz/common assessment/project and a 70 on class work/daily work. The student will have 5 school days from the date the grade was posted in Gradebook to rework the assignment. District Common Assessments are not subject to retest. Homework counts as 5% and cannot be redone. Late work: 1 day late will receive up to 80% of the grade received by student, 2 days up to 60% of the grade received by student, after 2 days no credit will be given.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY • Journals in all subjects can be taken home nightly to study or use with help on homework but must be brought back the next day!

SPECHT ELEMENTARY th Behavior Policy for 5 Grade • 1 st offense: Warning • 2 nd offense: Written in agenda and logical consequence • 3 rd offense: Office referral/write up • If the offense is already listed in the Handbook as an automatic office referral, we will follow that policy.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY Cell Phones • Cell phones are to be kept in the student’s backpack until they are off campus-past the crosswalk. • Cell phones must be TURNED OFF, not just on silent. • Students will be given one warning about their phone. After the warning the phone will be picked up by the teacher, given to the front office, and the parent will have to come and get it back.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY • DISMISSAL CHANGES – If your child’s mode of transportation changes suddenly in the day and your child does not know about it, please let the front office know before 2: 00 pm. They will give us a note letting us know of the change. – DO NOT EMAIL ME ABOUT THE CHANGE OR CALL/TEXT YOUR CHILD. NEITHER ONE OF US WILL GET THE MESSAGE AS WE ARE IN CLASS UNTIL THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY Absences/Tardies • School begins at 7: 40 and ends at 3: 05. • Tardies are recorded after 7: 40. • Absences are counted as unexcused without a parent or doctor note. The note MUST be received within 3 days of the absence or the absence will be counted as unexcused. Please write your student’s name and teacher’s name on the excuse note. • Students have as many days as they were absent to make up tests and assignments.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY FAQ Q: What STAAR Tests will my child be taking? A: Math, Reading, and Science. Your child has 3 attempts to pass Math and Reading.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY • 1. Your student is required by the Texas Department of State Health Services to be up to date in their childhood immunizations. No student will be allowed to enter school on Tuesday until these requirements are met. • 2. A medication authorization form is required with a parent’s signature and if applicable a doctor’s signature (all prescriptions taken longer than 10 days). ALL medications (prescriptions or over the counter) must be brought into school in its original container by an adult. • 3. If your student wakes up with a fever (100. 0 degrees or higher), please do not give him or her medicine to reduce the fever and send them to school. Please be aware that your child must be fever free for 24 hours, without fever reducing medications (acetaminophen and ibuprofen), before returning to school. • 4. Please update your phone numbers in Tx Connect as they change, as it is critical that we have each student’s parent/guardian contact information.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY • • • FIRST Lego League Robotics team for Specht Elementary. ANY 4 th or 5 th grade student may apply. Theme is INTO ORBIT, there is a LOT of research work, presentation development, as well as coding and robotics. More than playing or building with LEGOs like you may assume with the name “lego league” Applications will go home 1 st day of school. Application Deadline is Friday, September 7 th. No late applications accepted. Notification will be sent home that next week. First practice is Monday, September 17 th. Practices are Mondays after school-5 PM, excluding holidays - In Mrs. Ammons classroom #228 CISD Tournament is Saturday, February 2, 2019.

SPECHT ELEMENTARY • Strings (intro to orchestra): – 5 th Grade only – Application due date is September 4 – If there are more than 30 applicants, there will be a lottery. SPECHT ELEMENTARY • In order to be considered for Student Council, a student has to have a teacher recommendation.
