Synonym Smash! Synonym smash is a game of 3 activities. You will be given a simple word and then challenged to complete each of the different activities. How many will you do? The word is… happy Activity 1: Activity 2: Activity 3: How many synonyms can you list for the word above? Pick 5 of the synonyms we have come up with. Can you rank them from cold to hot? Choose a word that would fit in this sentence: Henry was ______ with his new toy.
Simple Sentences Draw a picture based on the sentence below. Remember to only draw what the sentence actually describes and nothing more. Michael ran down to the river. This sentence only allows us to draw a very basic image. This is because the sentence does not contain any extra information. Today, we are going to be looking at the different ways of adding information to a sentence to give more detail!
Super Sentences in 6 There are 6 different ways you can add to a sentence to give more detail or information: Add in words Add words into the sentence such as adjectives. Add on at the beginning Use a fronted adverbial to give a context to the sentence. Drop in chunks Use subordinate and relative clauses to add detail. Super 6 Change words Improve the words that have been chosen. Add on at the end Give more information by extending the sentence. Add a simile Adding a simile often creates a powerful image.

Your Super Sentence Now, take the sentences you have made. Take the parts from some of them that you like and combine them together to make your Super Sentence! Don’t put in too much!
Your Task All: Create your own simple sentence. Come up with a sentence for each of the Super 6 and then write your Super Sentence. Extension: Can you use your Super Sentence in a short paragraph with a mixture of other sentences that use the Super 6?
