Government’s Section 11 process • Set out in the Department for Education’s statutory guidance ‘Opening and Closing Maintained Schools’ November 2019. • The statutory process consists of: 1. Consultation which started in 2017 2. Publication of a statutory notice 3. Four week opportunity for feedback 4. Decision by Kingston Council’s Children’s and Adults’ Care and Education Committee The SDBE – Supporting Christian Education

Why Kingston? • SDBE submitted the bid to the Df. E to open a new Voluntary Aided School • Will help to meet a need for additional places • Diversity of choice for parents • Strong relationship with the Royal Borough • Demand from parents • Approved to pre opening Spring 2020 The SDBE – Developing Church of England Education
Our proposal • Six forms of entry • Co-educational Church of England secondary school • 11 – 16 • Serve the community • Specialist Resource Provision – social communication needs and autism, for up to 20 pupils with EHCPs The SDBE – Developing Church of England Education
Our proposal • Admission policy will provide foundation and open places (60 + 120) • Strong links with the community • Strong governance • Quality provision from outset through link with existing school The SDBE – Developing Church of England Education
Our Kingston school will: • Be highly inclusive and have a distinctive Christian character • Offer its students the opportunity to grow and develop within a broad curriculum framework underpinned by Christian values • Deliver high quality religious education and collective worship • Have strong pastoral care and chaplaincy The SDBE – Developing Church of England Education
Our Kingston school will: • Prepare students to be the future professional workforce for the area • Be outward-looking and seek to play an active role in the local community and in the provision of services for children and families • Be ambitious for pupils and staff The SDBE – Developing Church of England Education
So far: • Site agreed with Royal Borough of Kingston adjacent to the Kingsmeadow Sport Ground subject to Council’s formal disposal process • Df. E will build the school and have undertaken extensive feasibility studies • Early discussion with planners • Discussions about the design and layout of the building • Opening September 2024 The SDBE – Supporting Christian Education
