Southern Rhodesia 1964 Definitive Issue BRIEF HISTORY • 2014 is the 50 th anniversary of their issue on 19 th February, 1964. • This was the last issue of “Southern Rhodesia” • First definitive issue to be printed in photogravure by Harrison & Sons • All stamps were designed by Victor Whiteley • On 17 th January, 1966, an issue with these stamps were released overprinted “Independence/ 11 th November, 1965” • According to the Mash Guide, the 10/- was officially withdrawn on 17 th November, 1965, only to re-appear overprinted. • The issue was withdrawn from sale on 8 th February 1966, the day before similarly designed stamps were released, but this time inscribed “Rhodesia” • The stamps were invalidated on 1 st July, 1969
