Characteristics of Successful AP Science Students • High grades in previous science courses • Recommendedfor AP by science teacher • Strong work ethic • Motivated • Independent learner • Able to devote at least one hour each night to studying • Able to apply content, not just memorize Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire

AP Sciences by Grade Level • 9 th Grade – NONE • 10 th Grade – AP Biology or AP Environmental Science by teacher recommendation only ; must be paired with Honors Chemistry • 11 th and 12 th Grades – any AP science course as long as prerequisites are met Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire

AP Biology • Prerequisites – Honors Biology, Chemistry (preferably Honors) • Exam consists of 63 multiple choice, 6 numeric grid-in, and 8 response questions • Course requires 25% laboratory experiences, including 8 -12 indepth, inquiry-based labs Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire

AP Chemistry • Prerequisite – Honors Chemistry • Online chemistry classes generally do NOT prepare students for the AP course! • Exam consists of 60 multiple choice and 7 free response questions (3 requiring calculations) • 16 guided-inquiry labs are included in the course Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire

AP Environmental Science • Prerequisites – Honors Biology, Chemistry (preferably Honors) • Exam consists of 100 multiple choice and 4 free response questions • Includes inquiry-based labs that require critical thinking • This is NOT an “easy” science AP course! Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire

AP Physics 1 • Prerequisites – Strong math skills (Algebra 2 or higher), Honors Chemistry or Physics • Similar to a 1 st semester, algebra-based college physics course • Exam consists of 60 multiple choice questions and 5 free response problems • Requires more than 40 hours of lab work Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire

AP Physics C Mechanics • Prerequisites – Calculus and previous Physics course (preferably AP Physics 1) • Similar to a 1 st semester, calculusbased college physics course • Exam consists of 35 multiple choice and 3 free response problems • Requires more than 40 hours of lab work Connect to Achieve; Lead to Inspire
