The National Archives • based in Kew, south-west London • official archive of the UK central government • contains records of: o central government departments o major courts of law RAIL 253/516
Leading the archives sector • leadership role for the archives sector in England since 2011 (previously Museums, Libraries and Archives Council) • Archives for the 21 st Century – government policy on archives • support for all types of archives, e. g. local authority, university, private • advocacy, advice, regional engagement, training and events • programmes including accreditation, Archiving the Arts • work with other national bodies including Arts Council England
Regional engagement • Engagement managers with regional responsibilities: o first point of contact for archives in the region – focusing on local authority and university archives o support, visit, advise, find out what’s happening on the ground o feed into The National Archives’ work for the sector • The National Archives’ East region is broadly similar to Arts Council’s South East region • Priorities include support for: o sustainability o access to funding o partnerships with HE sector
