Mount Rushmore National Monument Mount Rushmore is one of America's most visited tourist attractions. The monument consists of sculptures of George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson carved into the side of a mountain.
Badlands National Park is the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the United States. The park protects 242, 756 acres of uniquely formed hills and pinnacles made from the erosion of clay and sand.
Custer State Park is South Dakota's largest and first state park and wildlife reserve in the Black Hills of the state, or the home of a famous herd of 1500 roaming bison.
Crazy Horse Memorial has the head and upper body portion of Chief Standing Bear carved into a mountain, similar to the Mount Rushmore carvings. However, this carving is not completed and has been a work in progress since 1947. It is an impressive site and has already been dedicated as a memorial.
Wind Cave National Park is located north of Hot Springs in South Dakota and is the home of a huge karstic cave system and one of the largest in the world. The cave is made of delicate honeycomb structures and is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills filled with roaming bison.
Mammoth Site is located in Hot Springs, displaying a large number of Columbian mammoth bones. Tourists see partially uncovered mammoth bones, shown as they were found from 26, 000 years ago.
Homestake Gold Mine does not operate anymore, but was the largest and deepest gold mine in the Western Hemisphere. The mine is located in Lead, South Dakota.
National Music Museum The National Music Museum is located at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, featuring thousands of American, European, and non. Western instruments from all over the world from a range of historical periods.
Sertoma Butterfly House and Marine Cove The Sertoma Butteryfly House is located in Sioux Falls and home to hundreds of free flying butterflies from all over the world. Although butterflies are the highlight, Marine Cove also has a variety of marine life in tanks and petting pools.
Spearfish Canyon is known for its beautiful abundance in pine trees and dramatic cliff waterfalls located on the northern edge of Black Hills National Forest.
