What is Apartheid? ● A South African political system of segregation by race that was put in place by Afrikaner National Party in 1948
Causes Of Apartheid ● 1913 Land Act: created more segregated territory ● WWII: ideas of fascism and nazism spread to S. Africa ● 1948: Afrikaner National Party won election

Effects of Apartheid ● Left racism throughout the end of Apartheid ● Still very segregated throughout South Africa ○ (White areas and black areas persisted)
Apartheid Comes to an End ● In 1994, Apartheid laws are banished ● New constitution put in place by F. W de Klerk ● Nelson Mandela becomes new president same year
