Sound STEPHANIE BANERJEE.
What is sound and how do we hear it? Sound waves travel to the ear canal until reaching the eardrum. The eardrum lets the vibrations through to the middle ear bones, which is the inner ear. The inner of the ear is formed like a snail and is also called the cochlea. In the cochlea, there are lots of tiny hair cells. Frequency: frequency is when there is a rate per second of vibrations in an electromagnetic wave field. Amplitude: amplitude is when the maximum vibration or oscillation, is measured from the position of equilibrium. Microphone: a microphone is when an instrument coverts waves in to electrical energy.
What is the difference between dynamic and condense microphones? Dynamic work best to record louder sounds as is picks up noise pretty well. However, condense microphone require less sound as the microphone already has a coil inside it which amplifies the signal around the microphone, which will pick up more sound. Condense microphone are used more often than dynamic microphones.
Unidirectional: a unidirectional microphone is the same as an omnidirectional microphone, which evenly picks up sound from every direction, which could be used for interviews and any other purposes. Cardioid microphone: a cardioid microphone picks up sound from where it is aimed at. A cardioid microphone would be used for speeches given to audiences. Bidirectional: bidirectional microphones pick up sound more from the front or the back, which has a high sensitivity, but not from the sides. This type of microphone would be used for two people during a radio interview. Omnidirectional: omnidirectional is a microphone that picks up equal sound from every direction, this microphone would be best used for interviews.
