Parable of the Sower Matt. 13: 3 -9, 18 -23 An invitation to seek the lost Seed – the word of God (Lk. 8: 11) Soils – hearts “parable of the sower” (Matt. 13: 18) Will we sow the seed?
What you sow reaped by another We are to seek ways to plant the seed. Sometimes that is all you can do. Sometimes others build upon what we do. John 4: 35 -38, 1 Cor. 3: 5 -9 We are expected to sow!
You Reap what you sow Based on a law of nature (cf. Gen. 1: 11, 12, 21, 25, etc. Applies in most areas of life Gal. 6: 7 -9
You Reap what you sow Gal. 6: 8 - If you sow to the flesh – you reap corruption Hos. 8: 7, 10: 12 -13, Prov. 22: 8 How does one sow in iniquity? Immorality, teaching false doctrines, sowing discord Prov. 6: 12 -15, 19, etc.
You Reap what you sow Gal. 6: 8 - If you sow to Spirit, you will reap eternal life Gal. 5: 22 -23, Prov. 22: 8 Psalm 126: 5 -6 How does one sow to the Spirit? With peace, planting the seed of God’s word, etc. James 3: 18
You Reap what you sow Making application: If we sow the seed of the word, we will reap Christians. If you sow anything else, you will get something different. Matt. 15: 9
Sowing bountifully/sparingly Another law involving quantities. 2 Cor. 9: 6 True in many areas of life – our time, abilities, resources, righteous works, etc. God knows what you are doing Matt. 25: 14 -30, 10: 42
After you sow, be patient Crops take time to grow So it is with Christians and the seed we sow with others. cf. 2 Cor. 1: 23 -24 Rev. 2: 21 – time to repent James 5: 7 -8, 2 Tim. 2: 6 Are you sowing patiently?
The Coming harvest Judgment described as a harvest Matt. 13: 24 -30 – parable of tares, see vs. 39 -42 Cf. Rev. 14: 14 -16 Acts 17: 31 – a day appointed
The Coming harvest How do we prepare for this harvest? Sow the seed of the word Sow bountifully and patiently Expect to reap righteousness
Are we sowing in this life so that we { can reap the good harvest in the next?
