Our opinion is based on the fact that she was likely to exaggerate minor ailments, enjoy the role of being ill, and has a prolonged recovery time from any particular illness, thus resulting in additional medical costs. Furthermore, we now feel this is her primary problem which in turn drives the depression and anxiety symptoms as they wax and wane.

Excessive thoughts, feelings, or behaviors related to the somatic symptoms as manifested by at least one of the following: 1. Disproportionate and persistent thoughts about seriousness of symptoms. 2. Persistently high level of anxiety about symptoms or health. 3. Excessive time and energy devoted to these symptoms or health concerns. C. Although any one somatic symptom may not be continuously present, the state of being symptomatic is persistent (typically longer than 6 months).
