Solving two step equations Practice problems You will need to perform two steps in order to solve the equation. Example • 9 r-12=60 • Add 12 to both sides ( -12+12, 60+12) • 9 r=72 • Divide both sides * 9 divided by 9 , and 72 divided by 9 • R=8 • Plug in & check 9*8 -12=60 Alexis Bourne Algebra I
5 b - 3 = 1 + 3 = + 3 5 b = 4 5 b / 5 = 4 / 5 b =. 80 First: Add from both sides so that the Coefficient and Variable are alone. (And remember what you do on one side, you have to do one the other side. ) Second: Divide both sides by the coefficient. ( what you do on one side, you have to do it on the other side. ) Finally: Simplify(solve) problem. Try these examples: 1. 2 d+4=16 2. 5 h+7=39 3. 129=6 k+39 4. 3 m-3=63 ROSE FELISME the

Solving equations with the variable on both sides I am going to talk about how to solve equations with the variable on both sides. It contains 2 variables, sometimes you have to use the distributive property. An example of this type of equation is written below. Now it’s your turn to practice Distribute to clear the parenthesis Subtract 8 x on both sides Subtract 24 on both sides Divide by -4 on both sides You get the answer Rubens La

Solving 2 Step Equations. . . 4 practice problems These Type of equations are not very hard to do, they only take 2 simple steps. You can recognize a two step equations when there is one variable and the equation is asking you to divide or multiply. The equation also doesn’t have too many numbers but sometimes involve • 5 x-5=20 • -6 m+5=35 • 10 a+2=52 • 30 s-1=89 Jasmine Sudhu

One goal in solving an equation is to have only variables on one side of the equal sign and numbers on the other side of the equal sign. The other goal is to have the number in front of the variable equal to one. The variable does not always have to be x. These equations can make use of any letter as a variable. The strategy for getting the variable by itself with a coefficient of 1 involves using opposite operations. For example, to move something that is added to the other side of the equation, you should subtract. The most important thing to remember in solving a linear equation is that whatever you do to one side of the equation, you MUST do to the other side. So if you subtract a number from one side, you MUST subtract the same value from the other side. You will see how this works in the examples. 3 x+4=15 -2 a+5= 18 5 n-9=20 -1= 15 4 x Shay Webster
