Equations An equation is a mathematical statement that contains an equal side This means that the two sides of an equation are equal Algebraic equations are equations that have a variable in them Example : 4 x + 3 = 11
Solving Addition Equations The goal of solving an equation is to find the solution of the variable We do this by isolating the variable which means to get it by itself To solve an equation, you must use inverse (opposite) operations Whatever we do to one side of the equation we must also do to the other side of the equation so that it stays balanced All of these examples have something being added to a variable so to solve, we must subtract by the number that is with the variable
