Solidarity-based collective action SOLIDARITY AS AN OUT-GROUP ORIENTED IDENTIFICATION COMPONENT
SOLIDARITY Abteilung Sozialpsychologie 2
COLLECTIVE ACTION - whenever people take action to improve their group‘s condition (Wright, Taylor, & Moghaddam, 1990) - can be expanded to action aimed at improving any group‘s situation („solidarity-based collective action“) Abteilung Sozialpsychologie 3
SOCIAL IDENTITY BASED MODEL OF COLLECTIVE ACTION SIMCA (van Zomeren, Postmes, & Spears, 2008) variables: 1. in-group identification 2. moral outrage / anger 3. collective efficacy Can such a model be easily applied to solidarity-based collective action? substitute for in-group identification needed Abteilung Sozialpsychologie 4
SUBSTITUTES FOR IN-GROUP IDENTIFICATION - superordinate / shared identity (Beaton & Deveau, 2005; Mc. Farland, 2011) - social identity based on shared opinion (Bliuc, Mc. Garty, Reynolds, & Muntele. 2007) - politicized social identity (Simon & Klandermans, 2001) Abteilung Sozialpsychologie 5
SOLIDARITY AS A COMPONENT OF IDENTIFICATION - ongoing discussion if identification is best understood as multidimensional - integrative multidimensional approach (Leach et al. , 2008) discusses five components, one of them solidarity - solidarity component specifically based on psychological bond with a group – not necessarily the in-group - useful alternative within the SIMCA model?
