COURSE OBJECTIVES: • To study the various sources and characterization of municipal solid wastes. • To know about the various effects and disposal options of the municipal solid waste. • To know the processing techniques and disposal method for managing the municipal solid waste. • To provide for coordination among public and private sector solid waste management activities within the regional solid waste management planning process. • To maintain contact with other industries and the public to identify creative mechanisms for converting solid waste materials into goods for productive use.
COURSE OUTCOMES: Learners should be able to • identify the sources, types and characteristics of solid wastes. • choose the on-site storage methods and processing techniques. • demonstrate the health and economic aspects of storage of solid wastes. • recover resource from solid waste by composting, incineration and pyrolysis. • transfer and treatment of waste, energy from waste and the conservation of basic materials.
ASSESSMENT STRATEGY: • INTERNAL MARK – 50 Marks – Continuous Internal Assessment – ( 1, 2 & 3) – 30 Marks – Assignment/ Seminar/ Quizzes/ Online test – 10 Marks – Unit Test – 10 Marks • EXTERNAL MARKS – 50 Marks • TOTAL MARKS – 100 Marks
