Solar System Ambassador On-hand as Minnesota School of Science Opens in North Minneapolis School banner reads: “Minnesota School of Science – Preparing Tomorrow’s Doctors, Scientists and Engineers” Minnesota School of Science in North Minneapolis Solar System Ambassador Earle Kyle Minneapolis Public School Superintendent Bernedeia Johnson leads the ribbon-cutting ceremony as former governor Al Quie (right) looks on On September 16, the Minnesota School of Science, a charter school, opened its doors to serve 230 minority students in grade K-5 from an impoverished area of North Minneapolis The school’s mission statement reads, “Minnesota School of Science – Preparing Tomorrow’s Doctors, Scientists and Engineers” Speakers at the ribbon-cutting ceremony included: - Former Apollo engineer, NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, and Minnesota native Earle Kyle, who discussed NASA’s support of STEM education - Minnesota School of Science Director Hasan Kose - Staffers for Senator Amy Klobuchar and Congressman Keith Ellison Former Governor Al Quie participated but was not a speaker The school plans to add one grade a year until the facility serves grades K-12 SSA Kyle will continue working with the students and faculty providing information on NASA missions, STEM educational products, and student programs 1
