SOLAR NET METERING SYSTEM Green World Energy Mabirizi
SOLAR NET METERING SYSTEM Green World Energy Mabirizi complex Kampala Uganda 1
2 Problem statement According to the world bank sustainable energy for all , the percentage of Uganda’s population that has access to electricity stands at 26. 7%. Rural areas are the most affected by lack of electricity supply due to the management of electricity distribution, this becomes worse for Bowa village which is completely non electrified. On the international scene, goal seven of the United Nations Sustainable development Goals of which Uganda is party to, “is to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”
3 The solution and value proposition Start a company that is licensed by the government of Uganda working under the MEMD and partnering with the REA to install solar systems for 100 homes in a remote community of Bowa in Nakaseke District in Uganda. This system will be connected to a micro grid to tap the excess energy produced using the net metering principle and distributed to 50 homes and small scale industries in the same village. Value statement: Our system will enable access of electricity for the rural communities that are off the national grid in order to uplift their standards of living.

7 Business Model -Solar system is to be given to 100 homesteads close to each other hey will start earning for the excess energy they sell to us after full recovery of invested capital in installations of the system. Project is subsidized by Uganda’s government which gives $0. 362 for each Kwh of photovoltaic energy produced. It is also subsidized by the Rural Electrification Agency under the government which is laying cables to transmit electricity. The excess electricity got will be distributed to 50 homes without panels in the same village, small scale industries for value addition of agricultural produce eg in running milling machines.
8 Financial Projections Units required to break even 3500 kwh Dollar sales required to break even $ 17, 501 Variable costs per unit $ 0. 41 Total Variable costs $ 8540 Time taken to break even 24 months (2 yrs)
9 Funding for immediate activity $30, 000 required for 100 complete solar system units with a net meter This is for: - Acquisition of these units - Installation and installation cost The Equity share = 30%
10 The Competition Net metering billing system is new to Uganda and Rwanda , thus no competition Our target is to introduce the net meter concept to people who already have solar systems installed to include them in our business model
