SOLAR ENERGY ‘ Inexhaustible Source…’

OBJECTIVES… Ø To decrease the use of non- renewable energy sources by using solar energy. Ø To solve the problem of “GLOBAL WARMING”. Ø Economical Beneficial. Ø Multi Applications.

PRINCIPLE… Ø When the sun rays heat up the water, this heated water being lighter, rises to the surface and loses it’s heat to the atmosphere. Ø While in ‘SOLAR POND’ technology, because of the salty layer of water. . . 1. Connecting Layer (10 -15 cm/1 m) 2. Non connecting / Insulator Layer Heat loses (50 cm) 3. Storage Layer (35 -40 cm) Fresh Salty (5%-10%) Very Salty (20%)

HOW IT WORKS…? Heat Exchanger Insulating Plate Drive Fluid Rein Forced Rubber Liner Fresh Water (atmospheric Temp. )

APPLICATIONS… Ø Other than process heating, thermal energy collected in a solar pond can be used in many more applications. Ø Process heat can produce hot air for industrial and space heating applications. Ø The heat contained in a solar pond can be used for cold storage of food products and also for air-conditioning. (KUTCH) Ø The hot brine can also generate electricity, using an organic Rankine cycle engine. (ISARIAL (150 k. W, 5 MW**))

ADVANTAGES… Ø The approach is particularly attractive for rural areas in developing countries. Ø Even when covered with a sheet of ice and surrounded by drifts of snow, the El Paso Solar Pond's lower zones produced temperatures of 154°F -- hot enough to generate electricity. Ø Coast for generating electricity is $2000 per Generated Kilowatt.
