About Solar Energy Solar energy is made by the sunlight and not the suns heat. It is important because it is one of only a few renewable resources. We should start using it because once fossil fuels run out you would use solar energy which never runs out and easy to get.
Solar Panels Solar panels look similar to glass and usually are on top of houses. The University of Michigan made a solar panel car which is called a “solar car”. It is powered by the sun’s energy and turns it into electricity which makes it go.
What it is Used For Heat water — for use in homes, buildings, or swimming pools Heat spaces — inside homes, greenhouses, and other buildings Heat fluids — to high temperatures to operate a turbine to generate electricity
Where it is found As you can tell Solar energy is mostly found in the Southwest. In the Southwest, where the Solar panels are, that effects the whole country with 6 states with a lot of solar panels.
Solar Cells Solar cells convert the light from the sun into electricity. They can also be called photovoltaic cells. Photovoltaic Cells can be used to power portable devices such as calculators.
Fun Facts Solar Energy is measured in kilowatt-hours – 1 kilowatt = 1000 watts. In 1958 and still to today spaceships use solar energy to power the spaceship. Solar panels first appeared on the market in 1956. The history of solar power can go back to the 7 th Century B. C. Did you Know That! California is currently has the largest solar power plant in the world.
