JOHN MURPHY THE STUPID CREATURES GUY The stupid creatures phenomenon started when John first tried to make a sock monkey, the result ended up as his first little creature Albertine. He then started collecting old socks to sculpt into his creative creature collection. John now has a huge fanbase, two books and a You. Tube channel.

Create a Power. Point on which you will attach all research and photos of your work. Slide 1 – your title “Sock Monsters”, your name and your class. Slide 2 – Research page on John Murphy including information about him (in your own words) and photos of his work. Slide 3 – create a mood board of images of sock monsters and other sock creations (minimum of 10 images) TASK ONE

Be creative and have fun You will need: • Old/odd socks • Scissors (preferably fabric) • Thread • Needle • Pins • Stuffing such as an old cushion or died peas/lentils. • Pen • Embellishments (buttons, beads, ribbon etc. ) When we return to school the best sock monster will receive a prize and your work will feature on the Burgateartists website / Instagram page TASK TWO

John likes to create a personality for each of his creations. EXTENSION ACTIVITY Create a name and bio for your finished creature. What does he/she like to do? Write a story about your creatures antics and illustrate it. You can do this by drawing your creature or by acting the story out and taking photos of him/her.
