Food crisis in Africa • After 2 decades of fertility, Africa experienced famine. • From the estimation according to UN’s world Food Program (WFP), 38 million Africans live under the threat of starvation. • Famine conditions were concentrated mostly in Southern Africa. Child in Sudan
GM Food • GM Food is a food that is genetically modified (Genetically Modified Food) • Zambia and its neighboring countries don’t accept GM food because think that GM food is poison. • Zambia and its neighbors are concerned, countries have not developed clear policies on GM foods.
AIDS in Africa • African Women provide most agricultural labor. • They are the center communities’ efforts to adapt to famine conditions. • AIDS is eroding the strength of Africa’s Women (Eroding the skills, experience and connections that keep their families and communities going. )
Food Aids in Africa • In the seven most severely affected countries of Southern Africa, 16 million people are in urgent need of food aid. • Poor harvests in early 2002. Soldiers hand out Food AIDS to Africa
Zambia and its Famine • • 30 million Africans. Zambia refuses assistance. Only accept GM grains. Other countries are concerned of the distribution of GM food. • Contaminations of crops are possible. • No countries develop policies of GM technology. • Most aid of GM foods came from US.
The Plans • Zambia joined opposing GM • Poison or panacea (a remedy for all disease or ills). • Government scientific team to the US, South Africa, Britain, and Belgium. • GM food called “poison”. • Panos Institute in London says humanity should develop policies before releasing GM crops upon the world.
