Social Media Sites Facebook Twitter Linked In Blog
Social Media Sites • Facebook • Twitter • Linked. In • Blog
Facebook • Everyone knows Facebook as a social network—but it can be used for businesses too! • Visitors can see what others are saying about your organization, and you can use it as a way to connect with your MST team members and keep people engaged. • Great for sharing important updates with ‘fans’ of your page or organization. • Updates can include: New hires, photos of events, team pictures, general news, posting and re-posting blogs.
Twitter • Much more fast paced than Facebook. You send out short messages (tweets) to your followers. These tweets can include links, quotes, pictures, and hashtags. • Hashtags allow others to find out tweets by seeing what the “Twittersphere” is saying about a conversation topic. • Some examples of hashtags are: #juvenilejustice #evidencebasedpractices #kidsnotprison • You can tag other relevant people or organization in your tweets. Example: @MST_Services is MST Services name on Twitter. You can also re-tweet (re-post) what others say. • Good for sharing relevant news, articles, blogs, campaigns.

Linked. In • Another platform that many people have personal pages on, but it is specifically designed for business and professional uses. • Great for posting jobs, joining groups with similar interests (i. e. , Juvenile Justice Information Exchange, Evidence-Based Practices), and occasionally posting a great blog post. • Linked In is also a good way to find stakeholders in your community. You can search for them by organization, name, job title and by location. You can connect with them and start sharing the benefits of MST by email, regular mail or in person.

Blog • Blogging is a great way to share success stories about MST, share initiatives, and write about the benefits of evidence-based practices. • Starting a blog can be daunting. But, we are more than happy to have you re-post blogs that we have written. Start by sharing one a month. Then you can share that across all your social media pages. Contact sophie. karpf@mstservices. com for help in linking to our blogs. • Writing a blog can also be daunting—but we made a blogging handbook for you. You can download from the MST Services website. See next slide.

General Advice • When promoting MST, it is important not to be too heavy-handed. Extolling the virtues of evidence-based programming in general, alternatives to detention, and other peripheral issues will build trust and confidence on social media. • Use “happy” pictures instead of “sad” pictures. Think of what a child or person will look like after going through an MST Program rather than before. • Follow some big players on Twitter, such as @4 juvjustice, @sparkaction, @juvlaw 1975, @nokidsinprison just to name a few, to start. You can find others to follow by searching relevant terms. • Remember, social media is not your website. Social media should be used to generate interest and point people to your website for more in-depth information. • Use the information and materials in the MST Marketing Kit in your social media to inform and generate interest in MST. • Always have a CTA (Call To Action – “Call or email us for more information”) on your social posts to create that opportunity to connect. Other social media platforms will be covered in future Power Point presentations in the Marketing Kit.
