SOCIAL ISSUES INFLUENCED BY COVID-19 • POLITICAL • EMPLOYMENT • LONELINESS • DRUG USE
COVID-19 IMPACTS ON THE U. S ELECTION COVID-19 may have actually been one of the biggest deciding factors in the US election. This was shown during the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden with how often the arguments "He has no plan for the virus" and "he's let 100, 000 people get infected" were tossed back and forth. It was also one of the main reason many people changed their minds on Donald Trump.
LAYOFFS Another problem caused by COVID-19 was the sudden layoffs. Even though this was almost an inevitable result of this pandemic. This, in combination with housing shortages in certain places could cause an increase in homelessness.
QUARANTINE LONELINESS One of the biggest social issues since the beginning of this pandemic has been loneliness. This has been very hard on some people, especially people living or with relatives living in long term care facilities.
DRUG USE AND ABUSE A big but slightly less talked about social issue is drug use. Drug use especially due to the current situation making it harder to get "safe" drugs. Since people can no longer have gatherings, they are more stressed, causing people to use drugs unsupervised. This has caused a rise in overdoses
