Focus of the SHF Mission: To enable, support and strengthen the capability of the social housing sector to build sustainable, well functioning communities through the provision of sustainable social housing Ø Capacity building and Ø Capacity building grant making This should address: - the demands of the sector and - contribute towards the implementation of governments’ breaking new ground strategy.

Capacity Building Approach “Capacity building” as a role is: Ø strategic, Ø long-term focussed and Ø covering a range of different levels, players and areas that need to be facilitated, promoted and/or stimulated.

SHF Role The SHF niche capacity building role would cover: Ø Building the knowledge base and advancing the field Ø Building the capability of individuals to meet the output requirements of their organisations Ø Building the capacity of social rental housing organisations and the sector Ø Ensuring that these organizations are aligned to strategic intent for the sector.

SHF Services Capacity building services of the SHF are defined as: Ø Product development - unique and specialised products for the sector Ø Process consulting for the delivery of technical support services Ø General advice and support to the sector Ø Capturing Best practices in the sector and building a “knowledge bank” / information hub for the social housing sector Ø Research and information provision to the sector Ø Advocacy and policy development work Ø Aligning sector stakeholders and facilitate and strengthen networks and partnerships
