COVID-19 Safety Moment What does social distancing really mean? Social distancing means limiting social contact with other people with the intent of minimizing transmission of infectious disease outbreaks. This could include, but is not limited to, attending concerts, sporting events, religious gatherings, or going to a movie. DO DON’T 2 • • • Play dates for your children • • Non-essential travels • Spending time in crowded places Meeting small groups for dinner Non-essential appointments outside the house (such as hair, nail and other optional activities) Physical contact with members outside your household • • • Facetime often with friends and family • Participate in remote activities, such as virtual workout, classes, book clubs or streaming activity options for kids • Take a walk with your dog in areas / times without many people • Test new recipes at home instead of ordering takeout Keep a daily routine SIX FEET Contact health care providers or local public health services by phone to determine whether in-person visits are necessary. People should maintain SIX FEET of distance between each other to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19

COVID-19 Safety Moment Why social distancing matters? When infected people cough or sneeze, they produce respiratory droplets that can be microscopic. If those droplets touch another person’s mouth or nose, the virus can enter that person’s respiratory system, exposing them to the virus. People may even be contagious before they exhibit any symptoms. One of the most effective ways to slow the spread of COVID-19 is social distancing. That means you should avoid crowds and put distance between yourself and other people when possible. 3
