Wichita Public Schools Strategic Plan Goals Every Student Future Ready
Goal #4 Every Student Future Ready
2020 -2021 School Year Plan Elementary (K-5) • K-2 Teachers will screen only students the teachers have behavioral or social-emotional concerns about • 3 -5 Teachers will screen all students in their class Secondary (6 -12) • Advocacy teachers will complete the screener only on students the teacher has behavioral or social-emotional concerns about My. Why Screen? • Social-behavioral skills are closely tied to academic success. • Approximately 20% of students exhibit symptoms of emotional or behavior concerns • However, only 20% of those students are identified and subsequently receive interventions • Moving from a “wait to fail” model and instead recognize pre-symptomology of emotional and behavioral problems to support early intervention Every Student Future Ready
7 Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Many schools have adopted multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) as approaches to comprehensive service delivery Tier 3: Intensive, Individualized • Individual Students • Function-based • Intense, durable procedures Tier 2: Targeted • Some students (at-risk) • High efficiency • Rapid response Tier 1: Universal • All settings, all students • Preventive, proactive Every Student Future Ready

Reminders During Screening • The SAEBRS is NOT diagnostic • It is a Universal Screener to help guide interventions • When screening think of the first thing that comes to their mind when thinking through the questions for each student Every Student Future Ready
Reminders During Screening • Only consider how the student has been in the last month (not last semester or several years ago) • Remote Students • If you feel like you are able to screen them go ahead and complete the screener • If you feel like you do not know them well enough do not screen them • Remember you are screening with the first thing that comes to mind regarding that student for each question Every Student Future Ready
