LEAGUE PRINCIPLES GUIDE THE LEAGUE IN ALL WE DO The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to serve the local community by promoting informed active citizen participation in government and by acting on selected governmental issues. The League does not support any candidate or Political Party.

HOW THE LEAGUE DEALS WITH ISSUES • Observe a problem. • Study the problem and discuss all sides of the issue. • Reach member consensus on what needs to be done. • Adopt a public policy position. • Take action - public information meetings, letters, phone calls; meeting with those making decisions about an issue; testifying at public hearings. • Litigate if all else fails.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE • • Three criminal justice conferences so far. Visits to Chester County Prison. Attendance at Prison board meetings. We’re fighting mass incarceration.

SECOND IMMIGRATION FORUM Documentaries on Immigrant Detention Special Speaker from South Africa (May 24, 2018)

IMMIGRATION POSITION Promote reunification of immediate families; meet the economic, business and employment needs of the United States; be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises; and provide for student visas. Ensure fair treatment under the law for all persons. In transition to a reformed system, support provisions for unauthorized immigrants already in the country to earn legal status.

GERRYMANDERING

APPORTIONMENT AND REDISTRICTING Support apportionment and redistricting based substantially on population of all voting districts, with additional consideration given to compact and contiguous territory and with respect given to municipal boundaries.
