The Need There has been world-wide recognition that fatigue is a factor that is the root cause of many accidents. The Need However, governments have ratified different maritime organizations’ differing sets of regulations. Some or all of them may be applicable depending on the flag or from port to port or the rank/normal/assigned duty of the seafarer. Further, advisory bodies such as O. C. I. M. F. can and do have differing interpretations for computing periods. It is humanly impossible to calculate or even visualize the possible violations that will ensue from a given pattern of work, especially when the pattern of work is not regular. Administrations have been empowered to detain the vessel if conditions are violated.

If data for working hours is entered after more than one day (date + 2), a comment is generated showing the date and time the data is entered. This is of importance to inspectors. If data is saved to the database greater than 35 days after the start of the computing period, this saved date and time is shown in red font in the GET records dialog box.
