Aim To Develop a more efficient system for monitoring and collecting waste, reduce transport cost and pollution generated through waste collection system.

Motivation Under the “Keep America Beautiful” campaign , From Creating the awareness to the proper disposal of garbage every key step is important , Initial step i. e. throwing garbage at proper place is the responsibility of every citizen and ahead of this proper segregation and then governing body is responsible for further processing i. e. from collection to Disposal. We are taking initiative to create a smart waste disposal system , which is disciplinary step to cover all the aspects of waste management lifecycle and play an important role from the Smart City point of view.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

Estimated Infrastructure cost Components: Arduino Uno R 3: $22 HC-SR 04: $9. 99 WIFI Module: $11. 99 GSM Module: $18. 99 Server Cost: $ 900 (each per city) Bread. Board: $10. 99 Number of Dustbins in Binghamton is around 5000

Steps for setting up hardware ● Connect Arduino according to the circuit diagram. ● Upload the code on Arduino board using Arduino IDE. ● Check if it works in hotspot mode ● Arduino will take around a minute to connect and get ready this can be seen on the serial monitor on the Arduino IDE ● The Machine should be ready with the database and the webapp before connecting and running the python code.

Steps for setting up hardware ● On the web app the level of trash in bin with id 1010 will get updated ● Internet is required for the application to run ● IP address in the python code has to be changed according to the current configuration.

Architecture

Cost Comparison of various cities in spending on Waste Management According to the statistics New york city spends 151% more on Waste Management than Kansas City and spends 40% more than Chicago per square kilometer area. For Development of the country there has to be more funds allocated and better techniques to manage waste. Our Proposed System would require funds to set up but would save cost on collection which would be better for long term.

Google maps API connection with My. Sql and PHP ● Google maps gets the data from My. SQL database which consists of bins level information using php. ● Php “select” statement query retrieves data from My. SQL. ● Retrieved data is encoded in json format and then json formatted data is parsed in google maps script. ● Script running in google maps API gets the data in an array format. ● The array then returns the location in a loop to generate routes.

Technology used Hardware Requirements ● ● ● Arduino Uno R 3 HC-SR 04 Ultrasonic Sensor ESP 8266 ESP-01 Wifi Module Server for managing the database GSM Module Software Requirements ● Arduino ide for arduino Programming ● Web Scripting Languages ● My. Sql for Database Management

Conclusion This Project provides for the betterment of smart city and technology solutions to manage the waste in the cost effective manner by saving the funds for collection and transportation. The information is processed with very less human intervention and therefore there is less chance of error.
