WHAT IS PLAGIARISM? • Plagiarism is defined as: • To present deliberately as the product of one’s own, the words or ideas (including visual/audio) of another without clearly attributing the source. • In other words, a person who commits plagiarism uses ideas, words, images, and/or audio/video elements without giving proper credit to the outside source.

What are the consequences? • 1 st Offense: • The assignment receives a failing

What are the consequences? • 1 st Offense: • The assignment receives a failing grade and the student is temporarily separated. • The counselor, department chair, and principal are contacted regarding the violation. • A meeting takes place with the department chair to discuss the violation and issues related to plagiarism. The student is to make the appointment for a convenient time for both department chair and student within one (1) week of the offense. Failure to meet with the department chair will result in the offense of Insubordination and consequent discipline. • 2 nd Offense: • The student receives a failing quarter grade in the class if a second (2 nd) offense takes place, anytime within the student’s high school career, in any department.
