Other Facts During the 80 year period from the 1770 s to 1850, smallpox, measles, influenza, and other diseases had killed an estimated 28, 000 Native Americans in Western Washington, leaving about 9, 000 survivors. Even after the disease had spread through the coast the Native American population continued to decrease (lower) Small Pox was spread by coughing or physical contact There was no cure for small pox The disease starts with fever, headache, and pains. Next little red dots will appear on the face, hands and feet. The dots would become bigger and bigger.
