Controlling Bandwidth Usage Services such as WSUS use BITS to download data. By default, data is downloaded at maximum speed and throughout the day. Restricting the bandwidth available to BITS and the time slots during which to operate, bandwidth usage can be reduced.
Controlling Bandwidth Usage Create a SBS Bits Configuration Group Policy Edit the new policy Navigate to Computer Configuration->Policies->Administrative Templates>Network-> Background Intelligent Transfer Service Double click Maximum network bandwidth for BITS background transfers This setting limits the network bandwidth that BITS uses for background transfers (this setting does not affect foreground transfers). You can specify a limit to use during a specific time interval and a limit to use at all other times. For example, limit the use of network bandwidth to 10 Kbps from 8 AM to 5 PM, and use all available unused bandwidth the rest of the time. If you enable this setting, BITS will limit its bandwidth usage to the specified values. You can specify the limit in kilobits per second (Kbps). If you specify a value less than two kilobits BITS will continue to use approximately two kilobits. To prevent BITS transfers from occurring, specify a limit of 0. If you disable or do not configure this setting, BITS uses all available unused bandwidth.
