SLOPE AND MIDPOINT Kory Brady Grade 8 Algebra
SLOPE • Slope Formula • Slope is labeled m in linear function y=mx+b The slope between two points (x 1, y 1) and (x 2, y 2) is calculated by the equation Image source: Kory Brady

SLOPE Watch this video on how to find slope Explore this Excel document and see how slope effects a linear line Analyze, Compare, and Contrast how slope effects the graph Get in a group and discuss how different rational numbers as the slope effect the graph After exploring the excel exercise compute these problems online
SLOPE Get in groups of two and discuss real world applications of slope Ex. Roads to prevent rain from accumulating, roofs, bathtubs to drain the water, and rollercoaster. Homework Activity: Research your favorite roller coaster and use a picture of it to graph on a coordinate plan and calculate the slope as you go up the hill and the slope descending. MIDPOINT • Midpoint formula • Midpoint is labeled as M The midpoint between two points (x 1, y 1) and (x 2, y 2) is calculated by M= Image source: Kory Brady

MIDPOINT Watch Midpoint Video Then compute these problems and complete these problems Compare and contrast the differences between midpoint and slope. Image source: Geology. com Homework Activity: Pick somewhere in the United States you want to go to driving. You need to stop half-way to sleep. Determine the midpoint between your house and that location to stop.
