Slideshow Project DOI: 10. 1682/JRRD. 2014. 03. 0090 JSP • Aim – Determine feasibility and efficacy of Lokomatapplied resistance (Loko-R) training on functional ambulation in people with chronic motor-incomplete spinal cord injury (m-i. SCI). • Relevance – People with m-i. SCI can recover basic walking function but still have difficulty performing skilled walking required for everyday environments. Training with robot-applied resistance in people with motor-incomplete spinal cord injury: Pilot study. J Rehabil Res Dev. 2015; 52(1): XX–XX. http: //dx. doi. org/10. 1682/JRRD. 2014. 03. 0090

Method Slideshow Project DOI: 10. 1682/JRRD. 2014. 03. 0090 JSP • 15 individuals with m-i. SCI received either: – Body weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT) with Loko-R. – Conventional Lokomat-assisted BWSTT (Control). • 45 min training sessions, 3 times/wk for 3 mo. • Measures at baseline, posttraining, 1 and 6 mo: – Overground skilled walking capacity (Spinal Cord Injury. Functional Ambulation Profile [SCI-FAP]). – Walking speed and distance. Results Slideshow Project DOI: 10. 1682/JRRD. 2014. 03. 0090 JSP • Loko-R training was feasible for people with m-i. SCI. • Participants in Loko-R group: – Performed significantly better on SCI-FAP than controls at posttraining and follow-up assessments. – Tended to reported higher perceived exertion during training. Conclusion Slideshow Project DOI: 10. 1682/JRRD. 2014. 03. 0090 JSP • This study provides evidence that Loko-R training: – Is feasible in people with m-i. SCI. – May help improve performance in skilled overground walking tasks.
