Teacher Research Measures Individual semi-structured interviews with select teachers 2 interviews/teacher Individual electronic survey 2 surveys/teacher Lesson implementation plans 2 plans/teacher Classroom observations with select classrooms (day to day observation of the implementation of entire task) Teacher reflections (evidence-based) One reflection per implementation (total 2 individual reflections/teacher)
Student Data Collection
SLED Student Knowledge Tests Test Structure: O Multiple choice (~15 questions) O Reflect vocabulary in text books O Science content O Engineering design process O Vary the depth of knowledge (level of difficulty)
Administering Student Knowledge Tests O Three pre-tests will be administered at the start of the school year. O Grade 5 - Prosthetic Leg, Water Filter, and ###XXX. O Grade 6 – Solar Tracker, Roller Coaster, and ###XXX O A post test (same as pre-test) will be given at end of year.
Delivering the Knowledge Test O Knowledge tests (Pre/Post) will be delivered to you electronically via email O Student answer cards delivered the school office in envelopes marked for your classroom O Specific test instructions will be given via-email O Tests will be given to entire class by projecting test, reading aloud, and using answer cards completed in pencil
Obtaining Consent/Assent Purdue IRB compliance
Parent (or legal guardian) Consent O Printed on light blue paper- (for Knowledge tests and Interviews) O Parent Consent Forms distributed (sent home or school open house) O Parents carefully read the form O For consent O initial and date the front O print parent’s name, sign and date the back O It is helpful if teachers have students print their name at the top of the form
